Gilles and Felix told me (Tkolektivnos (Ecollectiv), words, worlds)

Gilles and Felix told me they wrote the book that forms a rhizome with the world. That there is an aparallel evolution of the book and the world. That the book assures the deterritorialization of the world, but the world effects a reterritorialization of the book, which in turn deterritorializes itself in the world (if it is capable, if it can).

Gilles and Felix also told me about plateau. They told me that a plateau is always in the middle. There is always something before and something after plateaus. They told me  that the rhizome is composed of plateaus, as it continuously deterritorializes and reterritorializes into infinite new plateaus. The rhizome and the plateau are both always between things, which guarantees their continued growth and existence. Although the plateau cannot return to what precedes it, it always moves on, becoming something else, moving towards the next plateau.

What really happened

We gave ourselves a task to report, what really happened in the Odnos-Celje project, a 4-day work that we made, both in Ljubljana and in Celje.

What happened in Ljubljana?

Starting with the list of words which arrised from the previous ateliers as a response to improvised movement sessions. We took a word by word and “moved” them. Limited with time, we stopped moving each word when a phone sign told us that the time is up. This was followed by a feedback session, in a sense we gave impressions on just made work and we wrote those impressions down in their raw, fresh state.

Now we have a text that some places reminds on poetry, other places on a personal footnotes and yet other place looks like a letter to a close friend.

Definitely a lot of  useful material to work on…

What happened in Celje?

-a pleasant surprise in a form of a positive approval of our expectations
-a begging of new friendships
-an important connection between older (us, he he) and younger (them) into a curious and creative group of new Us.
- a perfect day :)

What page are we on – 3rd day

Jaka told me that word “no” is somewhat attractive.

In Celje (Plesni Forum Celje) we were joined by young dancers (age 10 to 15) on our invitation. We introduced briefly the context of the project, the aim of this project and this particular session. This was third day of work for core members. We decided to research the list of tools for improvosation, this time of course with youngsters. Each impro lasted 3min and last one 6min. One of us introduced the word, everyone decided weather they will be observing or dancing. At the last impro we suggested that you can go from dancing to observing while the impro. After each impro there was short feedback.

Before going to impro Gregor did a short warm up. Maja took over with game of names and game of associations.

-a very abstract thing because i could not visualise, i wanted to approach more clearly, so i did with my body, flipping from front to back for example
-shifting has a trap, a loop, we entagled up all time, we created a type of automatism
-the group was able to devise a theme that came as proposition in the improvisation, as the theme persisted it created rather humorous situation
-well shaped and articulated music and game with soundsSnježana introduces/suggest for observers to say stop. Then all improvisers stop and go out of stopped position in their own timing.

While feedbacking the game created in Shift impro, some kids continued the game and this lead to organically choose the next word, which turned out to be „No“.

No – ne
-word „no“ is enjoyable
-i was sad, there were also happy moment like snapping with fingers and jumping
-we started a game and then came denial, restriction, friction that stopped the game. We started a new game and the same it was stopped by „no“
-as Tonka pushed me, we were not in good terms, then we became friends and then again quarreled
-the „stop“ order opens new possibilities for continuation of established scene

Conclusion
-enjoyed that all the work was connected and done through playing games
-one could relax while doing/working and still get something useful from the session
-enjoyed improvisation and excersies
-we did know each other and still we could connect and relax with each other quite quickly
-we get to know each other, synchronize and connect through improvisation
-there was little or no uneasiness/awkwardness
-we could work together independently of generation we come from/belong to
-opened, youthful in research of words, notions, movements, dance
-no hindrance and curtains between us
-enjoyed that there were no fixed roles: that some should sit all the time and some should dance all the time
-you can join the impro if you want, at class you must do the whole training
-there was more time to work on it (3 hours instead of 1 hour)

Part of the group came with Snježana from Maribor. On the way they were playing the following game:

Pause-Repeat-Cobine Game
1.Pause. Start with normal discussion. The suggestion is to make a break/pause at any point of speech. You decide on your own when you do the pause and how long you hold it. The extra suggestion here is to use movement in the pause by manipulating a gesture that you were at when you paused the talking.
2.Repeat. One inserts the sentence. Other person repeats the same sentence. One can repeat your own or others’ sentences using different qualities of the speech: melody, accenting, speed…
3.Combine. Combine pauses and repetitions. This creates rhythm, rotations, complex composition. This naturally leads to playing with meanings.

The need for speed

I come from the round table talk entitled “The Art of Engagement” talking about the politics and art. There were also some people from visual arts. One of them said that visual art goes even more radical then other arts in relation to social and political position of art.

What about dance?  As opposed to visual art, dance does not have such a richness of critical thinking in written word. And that’s why in Federacija we put this as one of our priority: to encourage talking, writing, thinking about dance, performing arts. We can do it from our part, ie by doing dance and think about it and write about in and publish it. Even if it is only blog entry.

And this session of Ecollectiv the writing, thinking, talking is a crucial part of how to proceed in this project. That engages me so much that I look for nearest cafe bar with wireless and write this post, even though a bunch of stuff to be done wait for me (neatly arranged by GTD system he he).

And further above mentioned thought is one of the confirmation of adequate way of working we are treading on at Federacija, ie concerning creation, production, education and research of dance.

And personally I found for the first time a field about which I feel worth writing a blog about. Gregor

What page are we on – 2nd day

This day we activated the role of observer while continuing the work from yesterday. It turned out that at this point observer is observer the whole span of improvisation. First with each improvisation another person of the group was observer. Later Jurij arrived and enjoyed the role of observer.

Maja told me…the second day

Actually it was the first day of the 5th session of Odnos.
However, this blog post started from last day discussion.
So, it is the second day.

Maja and Ryuzo listed the words as tools for the improvisation some month before, which we are trying out.
Ryuzo attempted put his experience of slimy, unformed sensation of improvisation forcibly into the words, when he listed these words.
In this series of session, we try out something from these words,can be movement, can be some other words, can be something other.
It would be like this;
The slimy, unformed sensation → words → unknown movements and/or emotion and/or sensation and so on.

After each trying out, we (Gregor, Andreja, Maja, Ryuzo) discuss our experience, as follows.

Pause – mentally? or physically? or both?; testing; anxious; re-focus; tuning; distinguish; silence; stop; in between; before arrive or not arrive yet;

Recall – to the people; to the space; project; memory; organization; trigger to unknown; action;

Situate - relation with environment; let the other’s action go;  fit in between; channel; fill; finding space; encapsulate;  context;

Fill in – izpraziniti; fill out; lacking; refuse; avoid; round; voluming; limited or infinitive capacity;

Pause +Imitate :

- At the first moment, I felt some kind of block, probably kind of intellectual block to do something, but Imitate then broke through the block. In this case, Imitate would be good entrance for the movement.

- At the beginning, I saw a rough scene of others. Then I felt a labyrinth of the possibility.

- the movement by the imitate, if it is continued, it is loosing its contents. e.g. laughing.

Pause – could be silence, minimize the sound inside body, slowing down.

Maja told me…

This is a training to summarize the other’s talking.

I have no implicit meaning under this title of post.

Actually it is even not be the summarization so much I am writing below. It is merely some fragments of their talking from my bad memory.

I am confronting how difficult to remember the other’s talking.

Actually “Maja told us” is right. However, I would like to personalize this text more, that’s why I chose such a title.

Maja told me that it would be better to find our common definition of the words, which we are using in the discussion for our session Odnos.

Gregor told me that it is important to make the documentation, which the observers make during and after the session, someone does something, and someone observes it.

Andreja told me that next 4 days session should not be specialized for new participants. It would be better to do our normal session and invite them to join.

Kaja told me that we should not have too complicated rules nor even just so deep explanation about our session for new participants. It would be better to have simple and easy-understandable, like a children’s game.

I am waiting for someone will add some supplement or correction.

About weakness

To write about weakness is much more difficult than to write about “strong”.

Is it because weakness is that which should be gotten over?
Or does my intention inclines toward being strong?

It is like “Do not give up so quickly and endure to continue”
Or “Do not complain so easily”.
To get over the weakness would invite some ideologies.

Also like it is represented by a name “the weak in the society”, the weakness can be connected to the moral without difficulty.

If one interprets weakness into fragility, it would arrive at aesthetic.

One says the beauty of the culture of Japan would be the beauty of weakness.
Japanese people have traditionally taken account of such states, brittle, fragile, weak and ephemeral.
On the contrary, aiming to a state beyond such weakness, and longing to reach “ruin – death” . It has become an ideology.

What about to make a dance, which has a theme “weakness”?

Such a dance piece which would have weak dancer, weak body, weak intention, weak mind, weak movement, weak composition, weak choreography, weak existence, weak relationship, weak concept, weak presence, weak idea, weak image, weak music, weak scenery, weak synopsis and any way the manifestation as dance is so weak.

M – new dates and new ideas for new versions

Just got the news that we will be performing M 25th 26th and 27th Sep in Stara mestna elektrarna in Ljubljana. Great!

The same day I get the sensation and idea that M can be expanded to more people on stage in newer versions of M2. This ideas supports and develops one of the key elements of the project: to work on identity. In a way the identity of mother and Marjeta is spread over more people/performers and vice versa, Marjeta comes to have more opportunities to become other on stage in from of others.

Seems like and expensation period is dawning on me since with Tina we are planning to develop Kapital performance further and with Dragana we are already expanding it. How? The future holds the answer, this moment the key.
